Wakatobi So the World Biosphere Reserve

Agency of the United Nations (UN) who take care of education and culture, UNESCO, set the Wakatobi Marine National Park, Southeast Sulawesi, as one of the world biosphere reserve in Indonesia that can be best travel destinations.

Wakatobi Regent, Hugua, said the TN Wakatobi UNESCO establish an area of ??1.3 million hectares a world biosphere reserve was with 12 other in the world.

According Hugua, designation as a biosphere reserve world Wakatobi was agreed at the meeting "International Advisory Committee for UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve Program" the 18th in Paris on 2 to 4 April 2012.

"At the meeting, there are 26 areas that covered a world biosphere reserve, but which agree only 13 regions, including the Wakatobi, while other areas received five notes and five other regions declined," he said.

He said, with the stipulation Wakatobi as world biosphere reserve, the biosphere reserves in Indonesia in July 2012 will be a total of eight regions.

According Hugua, there are three UNESCO-protected interest in establishing the Wakatobi National Park as a center of world biosphere reserve, the indigenous people of Wakatobi, environmental sustainability, and economic interests of a sustainable society.

Local knowledge is protected in the Wakatobi is related to the cultural traditions of communities in natural treats and take something from nature.

While environmental sustainability need to be protected because of the Wakatobi waters of coral reefs and diverse marine life that is quite high compared to other regions in the world.

Number of species of coral reefs in Wakatobi waters reached 750 850 species of coral reef species. In the Caribbean Sea is much visited by tourists, particularly divers, has only 50 species of coral, while the Red Sea only 300 species.

For economic interests to be protected, according to Hugua, how people in the Wakatobi region can harness the potential of existing natural resources in a sustainable manner, without disturbing the environmental balance.
