The beauty of Venice in the Netherlands

best travel destinationsA small village in the Netherlands named Giethoorn - located right in the middle of a nature reserve De Wieden - often dubbed as the Venice of the Netherlands.

This is because the village has a different panorama to remind travelers on romantic cities in Italy, Venice. Located 7.5 km from the canal, Zwolle has about 50 wooden bridges, boat lines, ancient houses, and much more.

The difference between Zwolle and Venice of course lies in its history. As reported Odditycentral, a small village was first settled in 1230 by a group of refugees from the Mediterranean area. Reportedly, when they first arrived in the area, they found many goat horns runoff caused major floods in 1170.

Then the locals who inhabit the area named the village Geytenhorn (goat horns). But over time, the dialect changes over the years has gradually changed its name to Giethoorn.

This area is peatland eventually built as a settlement. Therefore, to get one area to another, local people will sail through the canal. Means of transport used to be the basic need now seems to have become a tourist attraction that is promising.

In 1958 the beginning of Geithoorn fame as the best travel destination. At that time, a famous filmmaker from the Netherlands, Bert Haanstra, make a movie in this location. Then the tourists began to arrive from various countries and the small village called as the Venice of the Netherlands.
